Jack Starr (real name: Jack Luce) started his radio career on Armed Forces Radio. His professional career started in
Columbus, Mississippi in gospel radio; then on to WLAC in Nashville and an R&B stint. A phone call from an old friend
in Memphis, Bob Neal, helped Jack make an unknown truck driver - Elvis Presley - a hit in the South.
Starr then traveled to Scranton and on to Atlantic City WMID only to receive a phone call to come to Philadelphia to
be a part of the new Philly Sound on powerhouse WIBG. This allowed him to work with American Bandstand. He became part of
the record hop scene in Philly and literally did hundreds of rock shows.
From this point on it was off to the races as he moved to Boston to do afternoon drive on WMEX, another top rocker. Then
along with Hal Martin WKSN he invented the popular TV Show “Auction Block” which later became the Home Shopping
Network.
It was back to his hometown Erie, PA. Where he held down mid-morning at WJET… and at WRIE. His last gig in
the Northeast was at WIXY, the Cleveland rocker. He headed west to host the popular TV show “Dialing for Dollars”.
He quit the business in the in the late 70’s and became a Manager of Pro Boxers that career is one of his passions
to this day. He manages two professional boxers currently, Jack also is a Sport fishing Captain and owns his own 53 foot Hatteras
Sport fishing boat and Charter business in Palm Beach, Florida
His friendship with Ron Seggi goes back 40 years (WJET)
and Ron has tapped him to be his side kick on the new “Seggi At Night” coast to coast radio show from Universal
Studios Florida debuting in the Summer of 2010.
